
Man charged over alleged impersonation
The police on Wednesday arraigned a 34-year-old man, Daniel Bassey, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for alleged impersonation on Facebook.
Bassey, whose address was not provided, is facing charges of impersonation. He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant, on December 1 at Kuola in Ibadan, allegedly posed on Facebook and WhatsApp as a white woman named Anna Aldean, living in the United States, with intent to defraud.
He alleged that the defendant also used Signal app numbers for the same purpose.
The offence contravenes Section 484 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000. Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case to January 22, 2026, for hearing. (NAN)
