
CAF appoints Cameroon, Tunisia referees for Nigeria vs Mozambique
The Confederations of African Football (CAF) has confirmed three Cameroonian and two Tunisians as the referee team for Nigeria’s round of 16 clash with Mozambique at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2025 in Morocco.The continental football governing body appointed Cameroon’s Abdou Abdel Mafire as the centre referee, to be supported by compatriots Elvis Guy Noupue Nguegoue and Carine Atezambong Fomo as Assistant referees 1 and 2 respectively.
Mafire earlier took charge of the group A match between hosts Morocco and Mali that finished 1-1.
The 29-year-old referee awarded two penalties in the encounter.
The match also had several stoppages from 44 tackles, leading to 37 fouls and eight yellow cards were brandished.
Tunisian official Haythem Guirat will lead the video assistant referee, with Khalil Hassani the assistant VAR referee. Gabon’s Tanguy Patrice Mebiame will be on the sideline as the fourth official.
Nigeria and Mozambique will face off at the Fes Sports Complex on Monday, January 5 for a chance to progress into the quarter final /stage.
Nigeria won all three matches to finish top of Group C, while Mozambique advance into the knockout round as one of four best third-placed nations.
