Borno: How teenager allegedly killed neighbour after snatching her phone
A 17-year-old boy identified only as Amir has been arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour’s wife in Borno State.
Residents of Layin Shagon Harun, Shuwarin II, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said the incident occurred around 10:45 pm on Tuesday.
The Police spokesman for Borno State Command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is in police custody, although details remain sketchy.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said the suspect scaled the neighbour’s fence after the family had gone to bed.
“He hid inside the house and waited for the right time to strike. He used a knife and stabbed her in the chest and neck. Later, it was discovered that he escaped with her phone and power bank,” the resident said.
He added that the suspect may have killed the woman to cover up the crime. “People are saying that the boy is a serial killer. He went in with a knife and stabbed her in the chest and the jugular vein on the neck,” he said.
The resident said it was the husband’s sister who recognised the attacker and reported the incident to the police.
“She informed the police that she heard her sister-in-law screaming for help after the boy stabbed her. She then alerted the neighbours when she saw the attacker rushing back to the house. He quickly washed his hands and clothes to avoid being caught red-handed,” he said.
The suspect was arrested by Police Crack Squad operatives around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
