Nigeria dominates Ghana to clinch West Africa Para Volleyball championship
Nigeria has emerged as the champions of the Para Volleyball event at the inaugural West Africa Zone A and B competition after sealing a 3-0 set win over Ghana.
In a gruelling opening encounter against Niger Republic, Team Nigeria showed their class with a commanding 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-22) win.
Nigeria’s experience again proved decisive in their final game against Ghana as they claimed a second successive straight-sets victory to clinch the title.
The team set the tone early, racing to a 25-10 win in the first set, followed by an even more dominant 25-6 performance in the second. They wrapped up the third set 25-16 to complete a flawless outing.
Speaking after the triumph, the president of the Para Volleyball Federation of Nigeria, Kayode Ladele, said the achievement highlights the board’s commitment to growing the sport in the country.
“It makes me feel achieved. Since we have been putting in the work to develop Para Volleyball in Nigeria, people can now see the results in the open. You cannot challenge victory; victory is victory,” Ladele said.
Technical Director and Head Coach Priscilla Agara thanked Ladele for consistently exposing the team to international tournaments, including the 2024 Paralympic Games qualifiers and the 2024 Para Volleyball Club Championship.
“The win is a massive one for Nigeria. It confirms our status in the West African sub-region. We are grateful to God for the victory, and I want to thank my players for bringing the gold home,” she added.
