FCT polls: Chairmanship candidate promises free antenatal care
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) chairmanship candidate for Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Muhammad Angulu Loko, has promised to initiate a drug revolving scheme and provide free antenatal care for pregnant women if elected.
Loko gave this assurance while addressing a mammoth crowd of women during his campaign tour of the Rafin-Daji community in Gurdi Ward on Monday.
He stated that his desire to launch the scheme stems from the lack of basic healthcare in rural communities, noting that rural dwellers often suffer the most due to poor access to medical services.
He pledged that his administration would rehabilitate dilapidated health centers across rural areas and equip them with necessary drugs and medical equipment to ensure patients and pregnant women have easy access to treatment.
“It is distressing to see a pregnant woman risk traveling over deplorable roads from her village to Abaji town just to access medical or antenatal care. Instead, we will refurbish and equip the health centers within these communities so that our women can receive treatment easily,” he promised.
The chairmanship candidate noted that having implemented a similar system during his first tenure between 2003 and 2006, he is prepared to replicate that success if he assumes office again in 2026.
He emphasized that women are a vital voting bloc and deserve quality health facilities.
He urged them to come out en masse on February 21 to exercise their civic duty.
