Adamawa Govt Issues Export Certificates to 150 SMEs
The Adamawa State Government has presented export certificates to 150 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to enhance their participation in regional and continental trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The certificates were issued through the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry in collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the World Bank–supported State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) project, following a capacity-building programme held in Yola.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Dr. Ishaya John Dabari, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening export activities and creating more opportunities for Adamawa-based businesses. He noted that the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri remains committed to supporting SMEs as drivers of economic growth.
He added that the certificates, issued free of charge and funded by the state government, would help legalize export activities and encourage entrepreneurs to take advantage of AfCFTA opportunities.
The NEPC North-East Regional Coordinator, Dr. Ben Anani Egon, commended the state government for implementing the SABER project, noting that the programme equips SMEs with the knowledge required to access African markets.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), Dr. Michael Zira, said the initiative would strengthen the capacity of beneficiaries to expand their businesses.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Henna Dariye thanked the state government, saying the certificates would enable SMEs in the state to export their products to other African countries.
