Nigeria benefited from €200m renewable energy grant– EU
The European Union (EU) has stated that over €200m grant has been given to Nigeria to provide renewable energy for citizens.
Speaking during a stakeholder’s engagement for Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), organized by the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), the Programme Manager, Energy & Circular Economy EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Godfrey Ogbemudia, said the grants aim to bring electricity to five million Nigerians.
“The EU has been a trusted partner of Nigeria in the power sector since 2008, investing more than 200 million euros in grants.
“These projects have focused on policy regulation, building the capacity of market participants and facilitating access to finance for both public and private sector stakeholders.”
He said the EU’s latest renewable energy package program for the power sector is approximately 100 million euros which has been designed to support access to clean energy through innovative financing, technical assistance and new energy infrastructure.
He added that the union is currently supporting the Nigerian government through the Ministry of Power in developing a roadmap and action plan for wind energy in the country.
“The plan is to do an on-site wind study for over a year in the country so that should be starting very soon. On small hydropower, we’re working with UNIDO to develop several private sector led small hydropower projects across the country.
“I just came back from Gombe State where we are currently constructing the first small hydropower in Balanga Dam and will go live before June next year.
“It is going to be a hybrid site with solar PV. So the actual capacity for small hydropower is 320 kilowatt and we’ll do a hybrid of 300 kilowatt with PV on that same site and we hope to do several more across the country.”
The Director General of NAPTIN, Ahmed Bolaji Nagode, said the event seeks to identify skills gaps in the power sector as well as misalignment between training outputs and industry demands.
“The immense opportunities for growth, reliability, and accessibility offered by this unique dynamic development cannot be overemphasised. However, they also expose our most critical vulnerability, which is the human capital gap.
The success of every technical upgrade, every market restructuring, and every good modernisation effort hinges on one irreducible factor, a competent, agile, viral, and sustainable skilled workforce.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
