Sokoto LP chair pledges to rebuild structure

The newly elected chairman of the Labour Party in Sokoto State, Alhaji Abubakar Yawale, has pledged to rebuild the party’s structures, promote inclusiveness and champion issue-based politics as he begins his tenure.

Yawale made the commitment in his acceptance speech shortly after emerging chairman at the party’s congress in Sokoto on Saturday.

While addressing delegates, stakeholders, and supporters, he said his election signalled “a new chapter” for the party in the state.

The new chairman stated, “With deep humility and a profound sense of responsibility, I stand before you today as the newly elected Chairman of the Labour Party in Sokoto State.

“Today is not about me. It is about us—the hardworking people of Sokoto who believe in justice, fairness, and meaningful development.”

Yawale outlined three major pillars that will drive his leadership: rebuilding the party structure, empowering youths and women, and promoting policies that address the real needs of residents.

He said the party would strengthen its ward and local government organs and ensure internal democracy remains the guiding principle for all decisions.

“We will open the doors of the Labour Party wide so that every citizen who believes in development can find a home here,” he said.

On youth and women empowerment, the chairman noted that no society progresses when its largest demographic groups lack opportunities.

“They are not just the future. They are the present,” he stressed.

“We will champion skills development, political participation, and economic empowerment for young people and women across Sokoto State,” Yawale maintained.

He also pledged that the Labour Party under his leadership would reject divisive politics but rather focus on practical solutions to unemployment, insecurity, education, healthcare, and agricultural development.

“Our politics will not be based on insults, division, or empty rhetoric,” he assured the people. “We will engage the people, listen to the people, and stand with the people.”

Yawale appealed to party members to close ranks and work together as preparations for future elections begin in earnest.

“The strength of a party lies in its unity,” he reminded,  insisting that, “Every member will be valued. Every voice will be heard, and every contribution will be respected.”

The chairman further assured residents of the state that the Labour Party was ready to present what he described as “a new political alternative built on hope, integrity, and progress.

“Labour Party is here to serve, not to rule; to uplift, not to oppress; to build, not to destroy,” he added.

The congress attracted delegates from across the 23 local government areas and was supervised by officials from the party’s national headquarters.
