Customs, NDLEA uncover drugs concealed in imported Vehicle at Lagos Port
A joint operation by the Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has led to the seizure of a large consignment of illicit drugs concealed in an imported vehicle at the Lagos Port.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday following intelligence reports regarding the shipment of drugs into the country.
The illicit substance, 347.5kg of “Canadian Loud”—a potent strain of cannabis—was found carefully concealed in 13 bags within a Toyota Sienna.
The command estimated the street value of the seizure to be in the billions of naira.
The Customs Public Relations Officer for the Apapa Port Command, Chief Superintendent Isah Sulaiman, disclosed that the seizure occurred barely 24 hours after the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, received a World Customs Organisation (WCO) Certificate of Merit.
Sulaiman stated that the drugs were hidden inside one of four vehicles contained in a single import consignment.
“A detailed weighing confirmed the breakdown as 10 bags at 25kg each, one at 29kg, and two at 34.5kg and 34kg respectively, totaling 347.5kg,” Sulaiman said.
He added that this marks the fourth significant joint drug interception by the NCS and NDLEA at Apapa Port in under two months, underscoring Comptroller Oshoba’s commitment that no cargo, whether import or export, will pass through the port without thorough examination.
Reacting to the bust, Comptroller Oshoba warned criminal elements against using the port for trafficking.
“Any attempt to traffic prohibited items through Apapa Port will be detected and thwarted. We remain vigilant and resolute in our duty to protect our society and national security,” Oshoba said.
