
Tears As Ex-State House Correspondent is Laid to Rest
The media community in Kwara State has been thrown into mourning following the death of a former State House Correspondent of the National Pilot Newspaper, Hajia Aisha Bukola Adama-Odion.
Fondly called Hajia Bukky by colleagues and friends, the journalist died on Saturday, November 29, 2025, after a brief illness.
Her Janazah prayer was held at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Ebodaniya Compound, Ita Elefun, Alanamu, Ilorin.
A large crowd of sympathisers, including relatives, neighbours, professional colleagues, and friends, gathered at the family compound, many visibly emotional as her body was brought out for prayers.
Following the prayer, she was laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery, Oko-Olowo, in accordance with Islamic burial rites.
Present at the Janazah were her husband, family members, and several former colleagues from the National Pilot Newspaper.
Among them were the former Managing Director of the organisation, Alhaji Yunus AbdulRaman; former Assistant Editor, Mrs. Joke Adeniyi; and the President of the Agbaji Development Association (ADA), Alhaji Yunus Abdulkadir.
Many described her passing as painful and shocking, recalling her humility, generosity, calm disposition, and deep commitment to her profession.
In its official reaction, the management of National Pilot Newspaper described her death as a huge loss to the organisation and the journalism community in Kwara State.
In a statement, the company said: “The management and staff of National Pilot Newspaper announce with deep sorrow the passing of our former colleague, Hajia Aisha Bukola Adama-Odion, who died on Saturday, November 29, 2025, after a brief illness.”
The statement highlighted her dedication to duty and ethical conduct throughout her career.
“Hajia Adama-Odion served diligently as the State House Correspondent of National Pilot. During her years with the organisation, she was known for her professionalism, commitment to ethical journalism, and her passion for accurate and responsible reporting.”
It added that her contributions to the growth of the organisation and the development of journalism in Kwara State were “invaluable.”
The management further expressed condolences to her immediate family, praying for comfort and strength for those she left behind.
“Her death is a painful loss not only to her family and the media community but also to all who worked closely with her and benefitted from her warmth, dedication, and integrity.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants her Aljanah Firdaus and gives the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss”, the company added.
Until her death, Hajia Adama-Odion was remembered as a hardworking, principled, and focused journalist who served with diligence and left a mark on colleagues and the broader media landscape.
