Okpebholo’s Ikpoba Hill flyover boosts trade, mobility in Edo
Traders, motorists and residents around the Ikpoba Hill and Ramat Park axis of Benin City have expressed strong support for the ongoing construction of the Ikpoba Hill flyover, the first of its kind in Edo State under the Administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Stakeholders described the project as a significant boost to economic activities, traffic decongestion and urban renewal in one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors.
Speaking on the impact of the project, Lawrence Agwanhima said the flyover would enhance mobility while improving the aesthetics of the area.
“The flyover will improve the economy of this environment and also beautify the area. Before now, movement here was very difficult, but this project is a good development. The governor should continue the good work,” he said.
Agwanhima also dismissed concerns about the possibility of hoodlums occupying spaces beneath the bridge, noting that such issues predated the project and should not be used to discourage infrastructure development.
Similarly, Ese Juliet said the flyover would provide lasting relief from the persistent traffic congestion experienced along the Ikpoba Hill axis, especially during market days.

“There is always traffic on this road, particularly on market days. We believe traffic will reduce when the bridge is completed. The government should ensure timely completion and consider expanding the road to prevent congestion from returning,” she said.
At Ramat Park, a fresh chicken seller, Master David Okhaishebor, a student of Army Day School, described the project as an innovative intervention that would ease movement and enhance business activities.
“The flyover is good and we thank the governor for the innovation. It will reduce hold-up and allow vehicles, Keke and other road users to move freely. It will be better if the bridge is fenced to prevent misuse of the space underneath,” he said.
Chijioke Akaru, a pharmacist who has operated a shop at Ramat Park for more than three decades, said the flyover would have a positive ripple effect on the state’s economy.
“This flyover will reduce go-slow at Ikpoba Hill and improve business activities. I have been here for over 30 years and I understand how traffic congestion has affected businesses in this area,” Akaru said.
The Ikpoba Hill flyover is a flagship infrastructure project of the Okpebholo-led administration, designed to ease traffic congestion, stimulate economic growth and improve the overall outlook of Benin City.
Residents expressed optimism that the timely completion of the project would further enhance mobility and support sustainable development across Edo State.
