Protest as Bandits Abduct 6 in Kaduna Community
Residents of Danhono II in Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Monday staged a protest following the abduction of six residents by suspected bandits.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at about 12am, when gunmen reportedly invaded the community and abducted six persons from the area.
Daily Trust gathered that the abduction sparked outrage in the community, prompting youths, women and other residents to march to the divisional police office to register their complaints over the worsening security situation.
A video clip circulating on social media showed youths lamenting what they described as the return of kidnapping activities in the area.
Daily Trust further learnt that a retired photojournalist, Malam Umar, was kidnapped from his residence in the same community about four weeks ago and is still being held by his abductors despite the payment of ransom.
A youth leader in the community, who preferred anonymity, told Daily Trust that residents heard gunshots around 12am before it was later confirmed that six people had been abducted from their homes.
“The protest was due to the rising kidnappings in the community and the abduction of the six people . It’s also unfortunate that residents are afraid to sleep in their houses,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the command had deployed personnel to the area.
“We have received the protesters and a deployment have been made to the community. Effort is also in place to ensure the victims are rescued,” he said.
