
Bayelsa ready to host 2028 NSF – Igali
Bayelsa State Government has said that it is ready to host the 2028 National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged the ‘Prosperity Games.’
The state also assured that the 30,000 capacity ultra-modern stadium under construction in Igbogene, Yenagoa will be ready for the games.
Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, gave the assurance at a media parley held at the Sampson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
He said the news of the award of the hosting right to Bayelsa had gladdened the hearts of Bayelsans.
The State recently won the right to host the 2028 NSF, and Governor Douye Diri has directed the upgrade of sports facilities across the state in preparation for the festival.
Igali added that Bayelsa had met all the requirements to host the nation’s version of the Olympics in Yenagoa.
According to him, Bayelsa would be hosting over 15,000 thousand athletes, officials in 21 sports in the next two years.
Igali revealed that because of the NSF, the National Sports Commission (NSC) would build an Olympic-sized swimming pool in Bayelsa.
He announced that the search for a space to construct the pool has already commenced, emphasising that the 5000 capacity swimming pool would be capable of hosting international competitions.
The Commissioner said the Games would be used to showcase to Nigerians the unique culture of the people of Bayelsa.
