Hajj 2026: Jigawa refunds over N50m to intending pilgrims
From Ali Rabiu Ali, Dutse
The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board says it has refunded over N50 million to the 2026 intending pilgrims in the state following a reduction of Hajj fare announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The Director-General of the board, Alhaji Ahmed Umar Labbo, disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital.
According to him, the refunds were made to intending pilgrims who had already made their payment before the adjustment in fares.
Ahmed Labbo explained that NAHCON has revised the cost for the Northern Zone, which now stands at over N7.6 million.
He added that the refund directive came from the commission following the significant reduction in the next year’s Hajj slots.
He commended the board’s zonal officers for the swift collection of application forms and relevant details from the prospective pilgrims.
Also speaking on preparations for the 2026 Hajj operations, Labbo said the board was working tirelessly to secure the best possible arrangements for the state contingent in Saudi Arabia.
While appealing to all intending pilgrims to ensure they pay for their Hajj seats on or before December 24, 2025, the DG reaffirmed the board’s commitment to a hitch free Hajj operation in 2026.
He also expressed gratitude to the Jigawa state governor Umar Namadi for his continuous support and commitment to the board.
