Two die on way to Bayelsa Dep Gov’s Funeral

Two people lost their lives in an accident while travelling for the funeral of the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

The accident occurred along Toru-Orua axis of Sagbama/Ekeremor road in the state, on Friday.

Residents told Daily Trust that an 18-seater bus carrying passengers to the burial in Ofoni community, Sagbama Local Government Area, collided with another vehicle, leaving two dead and several others injured.

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, confirmed the fatalities and said the injured were receiving emergency care at a nearby hospital.

Police spokesman in the State, DSP Musa Muhammad, also confirmed the accident but said details on the fatalities were still being verified.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police had deployed officers to the scene to conduct rescue operation and maintain order.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who collapsed and died on December 11, 2025, was laid to rest on Friday.
