57-year-old farmer killed, buried in shallow grave in Edo
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested five suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 57-year-old man, identified as Saturday Ojewa, in the Ewato community of Esan South East Local Government Area, Edo State.
The suspects allegedly murdered the deceased on his way to his farm and buried him in a shallow grave following a dispute over property.
Sources state that the trouble began when the deceased found the suspects on his farm in the Ewato community cutting his bamboo sticks without permission.
He reportedly ordered them to leave his land, and the suspects left the scene grudgingly.
Angered by the development, the suspects allegedly returned the following day and laid an ambush. They attacked and killed the deceased with cutlasses on his way to the farm, buried his body in a shallow grave in the forest, and fled the scene.
A few days later, one of the suspects, identified as Mubarak Marama, was arrested in connection with the disappearance and murder. According to police sources, Marama confessed that one Timothy Ogbebor masterminded the killing, which led to Ogbebor’s arrest.
Ogbebor’s subsequent confession led to the apprehension of three other accomplices, identified as Julius Bala, Lawrence Gayobi, and Victor Monday.
Confirming the arrests, the Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, stated that all suspects linked to the killing are now in custody. She noted that the investigation initially led to the arrest of Mubarak Marama, who then named the others involved in the conspiracy.
The spokesperson added that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
