Osun 2026: Aregbesola’s ally, Adeoti quits ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State has been thrown into a fresh crisis ahead of the August 2026 governorship election following the resignation of Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, a close ally of the party’s national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.
Adeoti’s exit deepens tensions within the party, which has been positioning itself as a third force alongside the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although relatively new in the state, the ADC’s rise to prominence was largely attributed to influential figures such as Aregbesola, a former governor and ex-Minister of Interior, and Adeoti, a former Secretary to the State Government.
Party insiders said efforts to consolidate its position ahead of the 2026 poll have been hampered by internal disagreements over candidate selection.
The latest development stemmed from a controversy surrounding the decision to adopt former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr Najeem Salaam, as the ADC’s governorship candidate. In protest, Adeoti publicly announced his departure from both the party and the Aregbesola-led Omoluabi Progressives, where he served as deputy leader.
In a letter made available to journalists in Osogbo, Adeoti said: “I hereby tender this letter of withdrawal from the group, which I co-founded with other progressive-minded individuals across the state. This also includes my complete withdrawal from all group activities henceforth.”
He added that the decision was difficult, noting his “investments into ensuring the survival of the group throughout its turbulent period from its inception till date.”
