EPL: Chelsea drop points to Burnley at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea conceded a late equalizer to share the points against Burnley in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The English Premier League encounter seemed to be going the Blues’ way with an early goal, but Burnley fought back to steal a point as the home side dropped points again in the race for a top-four finish.

Coach Liam Rosenior had his top gun in the starting line-up, including Cole Palmer and Reece James, and they went ahead in the fifth minute through a well-worked move.

The team move started from the defence with precise passing, and ended with Pedro putting in a low cross to Joao Pedro who bundled home for 1-0 lead.

The home side could not pressed their advantage further, as relegation-threatened Burnley continued to frustrate their more illustrious opponents into the halftime break.

The home side drab showing continued in the second half and Wesley Fofana’s reckless challenge earned him a second booking, and a red card to reduce Chelsea to ten men on 72 minutes.

Chelsea retreated into a defensive shape as Burnley suddenly found their attacking potency from set pieces, and scored the equalizer from a corner kick on 90 minutes. James Ward-Prowse’s delivery was met by Zian Fleming who tucked his header into the far corner to end the match 1-1.

Chelsea recoded their second consecutive draw under Liam Rosenior and leapfrog Manchester United who have played a match less into fourth position on goals difference, while Burnley made it two league matches without defeat, with 19 points from 27 matches leaving them eight points from safety.
