Super Eagles’ Stanley Nwabali leaves Chippa United Football Club
Stanley Nwabali has left South African side Chippa United, bringing an end to his four-year stay at the club.
Chippa United confirmed the departure of the Super Eagles goalkeeper in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the 29-year-old formally requested to leave despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024.
The club said it had accepted Nwabali’s request and agreed to grant him a release, while wishing him success in the next phase of his career.
“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club.
His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the statement read.
Chippa United did not disclose whether Nwabali has already secured a move to another club or will become a free agent.
Nwabali has also remained silent on his next destination.
However, reports have linked the goalkeeper with potential moves to other clubs in the South African Premier Soccer League, as well as possible interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia.
The goalkeeper joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2022. He went on to make over 70 appearances for the club and was named team captain in 2024.
During his time at Chippa United, Nwabali rose to prominence on the international stage, establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles following his impressive performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
