Over 1,000 secondary school students from 45 schools across Lagos State gathered at Calvary Bible Church, Idimu Road, for the fifth edition of The Keepers programme — a youth-focused initiative organised by Opolo ati Ewa Women Empowerment Initiatives in partnership with the Olumide Emmanuel Foundation.
Held at the church’s Rehoboth Grounds, the event combined leadership training, financial literacy sessions and life-skills workshops, with a mission to equip teenagers with the mindset and tools needed to build sustainable wealth and strong character.
Founder of the foundation, Olumide Emmanuel, said the programme aligns with the organisation’s goal of “eradicating poverty one person at a time.”
He encouraged students to study the principles behind the success of Nigerian billionaires such as Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and Rasaq Okoya.
“Their wealth did not come from shortcuts or crime. It came from building, investing, learning and staying consistent. If you want generational wealth, you must embrace discipline, strategy and patience,” he told the students.
He also advised them to avoid negative influences such as drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and Internet fraud.
For many participants, the experience was eye-opening. Ayomide Adeyemi, an SS2 student, said the financial literacy session changed her outlook: “I now understand that I can build wealth regardless of my background. It starts with saving and budgeting.”
Founder of Opolo ati Ewa, Adenike Emmanuel, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to raising value-driven young Nigerians. She said past participants of the programme have recorded improved academic performance, stronger financial habits and clearer career direction.
