Oyegun, Utomi, Lukman head ADC 50-member policy, manifesto committee
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named former Senate President, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; Professor Pat Utomi; and Salihu Lukman to lead its 50-member Policy and Manifesto Committee.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who announced the composition of the committee, said it was approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of former Senate President, David Mark.
Abdullahi said the committee was constituted in line with the ADC’s commitment to building a credible, people-centred and forward-looking policy framework for national governance.
According to him, the committee brings together a distinguished group of Nigerians drawn from diverse backgrounds, including former public office holders, academics, technocrats, policy experts, civil society leaders and professionals.
“Collectively, they represent a wealth of experience in governance, economic management, social development, security and democratic reform,” he said.
The committee will be chaired by the former governor of Edo State, Chief Odigie-Oyegun, with Professor Utomi serving as deputy chairman, while Lukman will serve as secretary.
The ADC said the committee is mandated to articulate a clear, coherent and credible policy direction that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians and positions the party as a “serious alternative platform for responsible leadership and national renewal.”
According to the statement, the committee is scheduled to be inaugurated in early February at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja.
The party also used the occasion to reaffirm its belief that Nigeria’s challenges require ideas rooted in competence, integrity and national consensus, expressing confidence that the committee will deliver a manifesto that addresses the real needs of Nigerians.
Other members of the committee include Senators Gershon Bassey and J.J. Akpan Udo-Udeghe; Ambassador Abiye Mohammed; former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba; Professors Sam Amadi, Ibrahim Garba, Remi Sonaiya and Anthony Kila; and Ose Anenih.
Also listed are Dr Mohammed Jibrin Yusufari; Miss Yemi Adamolekun; Nkoyo Toyo; Dr Usman Bugaje; Oseloka Obaze; Dr Otive Igbuzor; Engr. Bello Suleiman; Professor Chidi Odinkalu; and Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar (rtd), among others.
However, Yemi Adamolekun, former executive director of Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria, has questioned her inclusion in the committee.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Adamolekun said she was surprised by her name on the list, faulting the party for what she described as a lapse in credibility.
“ADC! ADC!! ADC!!! How many times did I call you? This is not how to build credibility. Please show me evidence of when I joined your party. Na wa,” she wrote.
