
Police arrest suspected drug dealer, recover drugs, weapons in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has recorded another major success in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and violent crime, with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and five alleged thugs during a coordinated operation in Jaoji area of the state.
Police operatives attached to the Jaoji Police Division were said to have carried out the operation on January 10, 2026, leading to the arrest of one Hafizu Ali, 25, a resident of Jaoji Quarters, who is suspected to be involved in drug dealing, and five other suspects believed to be local thugs were also apprehended during the raid.

Recovered from the suspects were large quantities of suspected illicit substances, including 2,070 capsules believed to be Pregabalin and 23 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa. The police also seized dangerous weapons allegedly used by the suspects, comprising four knives, two scissors, and an axe.
The operation was conducted under the directive of the Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, a statement issued by Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson, of the command said.
The operation is said to be in line with the strategic crime-prevention measures outlined by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, under an initiative is aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing public safety across the state.
Commending the officers involved, Bakori praised their professionalism, commitment, and dedication to duty. He also expressed appreciation to residents of Kano State for their continued cooperation and support, noting that timely information from the public remains critical to effective policing.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
The Kano State Police Command has again urged members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official police communication channels.
