On Asake, Wizkid’s friendship beyond music
Kindly share this story:
Afrobeats heavyweights Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid and Ahmed Ololade aka Asake are taking their musical partnership to a new level. During a recent Apple Music takeover, the duo recently announced a monumental joint EP set to drop this December titled Real. Their announcement immediately lit up social media, with fans celebrating the collab as the ultimate Detty December anthem, promising the party-starting soundtrack Africa needs this festive season.
To tease what’s coming, their official DJ previewed a snippet of a track titled “Jogodo”, laced with heavy beats, Yoruba lyrics, and that signature Asake-meets-Wizkid energy. Expectations are high, and fans are eagerly waiting to see if the EP delivers the global Afrobeats energy both artistes are known for.
This collaboration is a natural next step. Their earlier work on “MMS”, from Asake’s 2024 album Lungu Boy, proved their musical worlds mesh perfectly. That chemistry has shown up again on tracks like “Bad Girl” and other joint features, giving fans a taste of how their styles intertwine effortlessly.
Behind the music, however, is a friendship built on mutual respect, trust, and mentorship. From Asake’s early days in Lagos, Wizkid has been one of his inspiring mentors. Asake has repeatedly described Wizkid as both his idol and mentor, while Wizkid has shown support, attending Asake’s concerts across the US, Germany, and at the O2 Arena, even showing up on stage sometimes.
Speaking during the Apple Music Radio interview, Asake opened up about their relationship.
“Me and Wizkid, our relationship is so real, we don’t share too much because this thing is bigger than the music itself.”
Their bond extends beyond music. Wizkid reportedly took a month off to tour Europe with Asake, demonstrating that their partnership is grounded in trust, respect, and shared ambition. It’s this connection that translates into the effortless chemistry fans hear in their music.
