
‘Yobe’s trailer park to create 5,000 jobs’
The Yobe State Government has constructed a new trailer motor park to boost economic activities and improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Buba Kyari, disclosed this while speaking to journalists during a media tour of the state. Leading reporters to the project site, the commissioner said the motor park has the capacity to accommodate more than 500 trailers and will serve as a major logistics hub for the state. According to him, the facility is expectead to create about 5,000 direct jobs, in addition to several indirect employment opportunities once it becomes fully operational.
He explained that the park is equipped with modern facilities, including accommodation blocks, administrative offices, toilets, warehouses, workshops, a mosque, a fire service station, and a security outpost.
The commissioner added that the park covers about 86,000 square metres and has sufficient space to handle large volumes of truck traffic.
He further revealed that the state government is in discussions with a US-based agency to form a public-private partnership that will allow private developers to manage and operate the truck transit park.
