Unknown assailants kill pregnant woman, toddler in Kano
Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu community in Kano Municipal Local Government Area were on Saturday night thrown into fear and tension following the killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The incident was discovered at about 8:00 pm when the husband of the deceased woman returned home from work and found their house locked.
According to residents, the man, whose identity was withheld for security reasons, made enquiries from neighbours before forcing his way into the house, where he found the bodies of his wife and child.
Community members subsequently alerted relevant authorities.
Confirming the incident, the community leader, Ahmad Sani, said residents were shocked by the development and immediately mobilised to the scene after receiving the report.
He lamented the lack of security presence in the area, noting that despite the construction of a police outpost in the community, security personnel were yet to be deployed to man the facility.
“The entire community is in shock. This is a peaceful area, and such an incident has never happened before. We are worried because there is no security presence here,” Sani said.
He appealed to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Dr Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to urgently intervene by strengthening security in the area to prevent a recurrence.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, declined to give details, saying investigations into the incident were ongoing.
Residents, meanwhile, have called for swift action by security agencies to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
