
5 killed as bandits attack Oyo park
Suspected bandits have attacked the National Park Service office in Oloka in Orire LGA of Oyo State and killed at least five forest guards.
Our correspondent learnt that the attack took place at about 9pm on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the assailants infiltrated the area unnoticed and launched the brutal assault, leaving five dead and several others injured.
They described the incident as violent and well-coordinated, sparking panic among residents of nearby communities.
Oyo police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident but did not give a figure of casualties.
Olayinka said the Commissioner of Police (CP), Oyo Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, were already heading to the affected area to assess the situation.
In a statement posted on his X handle, Governor Seyi Makinde: “Earlier today, there was a criminal attack by bandits at the National Park Office, Oloka village, which resulted in the death of five National Park Service Forest Guard Officers. This is a devastating loss of the lives of personnel in the course of carrying out their lawful duties. May their souls rest in peace.”
He said preliminary investigation by the security agencies indicated that the incident was “a cross-border attack carried out by bandits.”
