
Wike sacks FCT-IRS acting chair

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, Michael Ango.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
Following Ango’s removal, the most senior official of the FCT-IRS has been directed to immediately take over the leadership of the revenue agency in an acting capacity.
No official reason was given for the decision as of the time of filing this report.
Part of the statement reads, “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Michael Ango.
“The most senior official of the FCT-IRS has also been directed to take over the running of the revenue agency with immediate effect.”
PUNCH Online reports that President Bola Tinubu, approved Ango’s appointment as Acting Chairman of the FCT-IRS on August 9th, 2024, according to a statement by the former Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye.
Under his leadership, the Revenue Service recorded a revenue of N262bn in 2024, surpassing its target of N250bn, and its previous revenue collection of N211.1bn for 2023.
