3 arrested over murder of Abuja lawyer
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of an Abuja-based lawyer, Barrister Princess Chigbo.
Daily Trust had earlier reported that the victim’s body, along with her personal documents, was found along the Kubwa Expressway, raising suspicion that she was murdered.
In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, identified the suspects as two siblings—Saifullahi Yusuf, 22, and Ishau Yusuf, 24, from Kaduna State, residing in the Dan-Tata community near Dei-Dei, Abuja, and a third suspect, Minkailu Jibril, also from Kaduna State.
The statement further noted that the suspects were arrested between January 5th and 10th, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s “Scorpion Squad,” led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey.
The statement added that the operation followed a directive from the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, to ensure all perpetrators connected to the crime and similar offences are identified and brought to justice.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on January 5th, 2026, at approximately 5:50pm, Barrister Princess Chigbo unknowingly boarded the suspects’ black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway.
The vehicle was already occupied by the criminal gang.
“Upon entry into the vehicle, the suspects wound up the tinted windows and threatened the victim with weapons in an attempt to force her to pay a ransom for her release,” the statement read.
When she allegedly refused to cooperate, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, resulting in her death.
The police further revealed that the suspects confessed to stealing the victim’s Android phone, which was later sold in the Dei-Dei area for N120,000.
