
Gov. Lawal: We’ll continue to support initiatives, expand collaboration to promote youth development
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal said his administration will continue to support enlightenment initiatives, expand collaboration with relevant agencies and promote youth development programmes that reduce weakness.
The Governor stated this at the students security summit organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council, Zamfara Axis held at Federal College of Education Technical Gusau.
Gov. Lawal applauded the admiration, and firm solidarity of the students leadership for choosing the theme “Strengthening Campus Security Concerns and Drugs Abuse Prevalence among Students in Zamfara State.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Hon. Tasi’u Musa Shinkafi said, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has placed security at the core of governance through Strengthens collaboration with security agencies, improved coordination frameworks, and sustained community engagement apart from deliberate measures are being implemented to stabilize our environment.
“Educational advancement thrives best where stability exists. A secure campus strengthens the wider society.
Speaking on the issue of drug abuse, Governor Lawal said, Substance abuse among young people erodes ambition, damages health, distorts judgment, and exposes individuals to long-term consequences that extend beyond the classroom.
“It is not confined to the student community; it affects families, institutions, and the State at large. When a young mind is diverted by drugs, the loss is collective.
“Consequences of substance abuse extend beyond personal health and academic decline. Experience has shown that drug dependency often fuels other forms of misconduct and criminal activity. Individuals under the influence are more disposed to involvement in theft, violent quarrels, cult related disturbances, and collaboration with criminal networks.
“We are working tirelessly to overcome security challenges and community unrest, the presence of drug abuse among young people can worsen instability by damaging judgment, weakening moral limits, and making defenceless youths easy tools in the hands of criminal elements. The Governor lamented.
Hon. Tasi’u Musa further stated that, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and other strategic platforms, skills acquisition initiatives, entrepreneurship support schemes, sports engagement, and mentorship programmes are being strengthened to provide constructive outlets for youthful energy.
“Policy measures, however, must be supported by personal discipline. I urge our students to guard their ambitions with seriousness and clarity of purpose. Your presence in higher institutions represents sacrifice, hope, and expectation. Do not allow temporary influences to compromise your lasting ambition. The Gov. Urged.
Governor Lawal further challenges the leadership of NANS to extend their responsibility beyond representation.
“You serve as mobilizers, opinion shapers, and advocates of student welfare. Encourage responsible conduct. Promote peer awareness. Engage positively with institutional authorities and Government structures. Where concerns arise, address them with maturity and clarity. Gov. Lawal said.
The Governor also said, his administration remains committed to youth inclusion and institutional strengthening.
“The reform agenda of this administration recognizes that sustainable development depends on the intellectual capacity and moral strength of its young population. Education, youth empowerment, and institutional stability remain central pillars of governance in Zamfara State.
Gov. Lawal further assured the students that, Government of Zamfara State remains open to practical recommendations coming from their engagement, dialogue strengthens policy; collaboration strengthens implementation; and shared responsibility strengthens results.
“This administration will continue to work diligently to ensure that every student in Zamfara State can pursue education in an environment defined by stability, discipline, and opportunity. Gov. Lawal said.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council, Zamfara Axis, Comrade Ibrahim Halilu said, the security summit is organized with a clear and urgent purpose to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and students across the State.
“We strongly believe that security is everyone’s responsibility, but students must know the proper channels through which they can report threats, suspicious activities, or security concerns without fear. Comrade Halliru said.
