Police foil bandit attack in Katsina, recover rifles, ammunition
The Katsina State Police Command says its operatives have foiled a bandit operation along the Kandawa–Dankar corridor in Batsari Local Government Area, recovering two AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
Abubakar Sadiq, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Saturday that officers were deployed after reports indicated that suspected bandits were attempting to blockade the route.
According to him, the swift response of the Divisional Police Officer and his team led to a confrontation that forced the armed group to flee, abandoning their weapons.
The operation, he said, followed a recent review of security tactics and the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to intensify nationwide safety measures.
“The operatives intercepted the suspects, engaged them, and repelled the attack through superior tactics and firepower,” the statement noted.
Sadiq added that investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
