Fubara: 2027 will be a smooth ride for Tinubu
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State says the 2027 presidential election will be “a smooth ride” for President Bola Tinubu, declaring his full commitment to delivering victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Fubara made the remarks on Friday while flagging off the Rivers Airport Bypass project, shortly after formally announcing his membership of the APC.
The governor described himself as the party’s foremost member in Rivers, saying: “I am not just a member of the All Progressives Congress, I am the number one. I have collected my card — the form is 001. From this moment, I am in the APC with all my chest and heart.”
He assured Tinubu of maximum support ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that the best way to appreciate the president’s support for the state is to deliver overwhelming votes for him.
“The message is clear: We are going to do everything to make the 2027 election for Mr President a smooth ride in Rivers State,” Fubara said. “How do we do it? With your support. The only way we can continue to tell Mr President ‘thank you’ is to support him.”
Fubara’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on December 9 came just days after 15 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly — including Speaker Martin Amaewhule — also crossed to the ruling party.
The political shift is unfolding amid renewed tensions between the governor and the assembly. On Thursday, lawmakers accused Fubara of engaging in unapproved spending and awarding contracts to associates without due process.
The allegations surfaced barely 24 hours after Fubara dismissed claims of a lingering rift with the assembly, insisting he has made several attempts to meet with its leadership since his reinstatement in September.
He said no meeting had been scheduled despite his efforts.
But Speaker Amaewhule countered the governor’s assertions, saying lawmakers met with Fubara in September at the instance of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. He accused the governor of failing to uphold agreements reached during that meeting.
The renewed political fireworks come as the APC positions itself to consolidate power in Rivers ahead of the 2027 elections — with Fubara promising to lead the effort to deliver the state for President Tinubu.
