A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has constituted a caretaker committee for the party in Ekiti State.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the factional National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, made available in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the 16-member caretaker committee appointed by the National Executive Committee is chaired by a former state chairman of the party, Lanre Omolase, while Tunde Ogunleye was named a member/secretary.
Bature said the committee “is charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the PDP in Ekiti State, as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of our party’s constitution, for a period of 30 days or until a new executive is elected.
“In carrying out this assignment, you are guided strictly by the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended), the Electoral Act (2010, as amended), and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
“It is expected that your exemplary conduct and strict adherence to rules and regulations during your assignment will justify the confidence reposed in you by the leadership of the party.”
Other members of the caretaker committee, according to the statement, are Femi Phillips, Gani Bakare, Akande Babatunde, Tosin Joel, Modupe Ayilaran, Dare Pelemon, Chief Arogbodo Ayodele, Segun Olatunji, Gbenga Agbede, Sesan Owoeye, Gbenga Ojuawo, Jimoh Arinde, Rotimi Adara, and Banji Adeleke.
Recall that the PDP faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, in Ekiti State, recently elected a new executive committee chaired by a former acting governor, Tunji Odeyemi.
However, the Wike-led faction, during a recent meeting, announced the dissolution of PDP state executive committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti states.
