
4 killed, 38 kidnapped in Plateau, Zamfara
Bandits have killed four persons and kidnapped 38 others, including women and children, in attacks on communities in Plateau and Zamfara states. Residents said the incidents occurred on Sunday night, triggering panic in the affected areas. In Plateau, the assailants abducted 28 travellers in Zak community, Bashar District, Wase LGA. A youth leader in Wase, Sapi’i Sambo, in a telephone interview, said the victims comprised men, women and children. A resident of Bashar town, Ibrahim Musa, said the victims were travelling from Zak village to Sabon Layi community to attend a Maulud celebration scheduled for Sunday when they were attacked. He said two princes and a religious leader who led the journey were among those abducted. He explained that, “The incident happened around 8pm as they were heading to Sabon Layi. The gunmen ambushed their vehicle on the outskirts of the community, abducted all the travellers, including children and abandoned the vehicle.” He said the abandoned vehicle, belonging to the Zak community leader, was discovered by other road users on Monday morning, prompting investigations that revealed it was the vehicle conveying the abducted travellers. The state’s police spokesperson, SP Alabo Alfred, said the command was investigating the report.
Children, others abducted in Zamfara In Zamfara, bandits attacked Maru town, the headquarters of Maru LGA. A witness, Malam Ibrahim Hamida, said, “They came in around 12am and left around 1:30am. The attack left four people dead, injured several others and led to the abduction of at least 10 persons, including children. Those injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.” Hamida added that among those killed was the wife of a police officer, while his children were abducted. The Chairman of Maru LGA, Hon. Bello Jabaka, said, “Yes, it is true that bandits attacked Maru town, and as I speak, we are making arrangements for the burial of the four people killed. Kindly allow us to complete this before I grant an interview.”
