ICPC, Housing Ministry Inspect Constituency Projects, Warn Defaulting Contractors
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has flagged off a joint nationwide verification and tracking of constituency and zonal intervention projects.
The Northwest zone exercise, which was officially flagged off in Kano on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, aims to ensure that all federal projects are delivered according to approved specifications, upholding transparency and ensuring value for money for the Nigerian people.
During the flag-off, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, represented by the Director of the Special Projects Unit, Olatunde Ajayi, issued a stern warning to contractors.
He emphasised that the Ministry has a zero-tolerance policy for substandard work or project abandonment.
“The Ministry will not hesitate to invite contractors for corrective action where deficiencies are identified, or demand refunds to government coffers where projects have clearly failed to meet contractual obligations,” Belgore stated.
In Kano, the joint inspection team visited several key sites, including a sports facility featuring a mini-stadium and an indoor sports centre in Gwarzo town.
The team also inspected solar power intervention projects at GSS Kwa in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
Following the assessment of the materials and technical execution, Mr Olatunde Ajayi expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work handled by the contractors.
He noted that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is particularly pleased with the grade of materials utilised at the Gwarzo and Dawakin Tofa sites.
While the ICPC team identified what they described as “insignificant technical lapses” during the tour, they commended the overall standard of the construction.
The contractors were urged to rectify the minor issues identified and to fast-track the remaining phases of the projects to ensure timely delivery for the benefit of the local communities.
Speaking on the commission’s role, the ICPC Head of Constituency Projects Tracking, Bello Idris Bakori, explained that their involvement is part of a proactive mandate to prevent corruption and deter sharp practices in public expenditure.
He assured that all findings would be documented and followed up in accordance with extant laws to safeguard the public interest.
The joint verification exercise is being conducted simultaneously across all states where the Ministry has implemented constituency projects, with reports expected to guide future planning and interventions.
