Mob lynches man for allegedly killing father’s ex-wife in Taraba
A mob has reportedly lynched a man for the alleged murder of his father’s ex-wife in a Taraba village.
Daily Trust gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday at Nanguru village in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
It was further learned that the suspect, identified as Ubaido Tanimu, allegedly hacked his father’s ex-wife to death before fleeing to Garwa, a neighboring village.
A witness in the village, Habibu Bello, told Daily Trust that the deceased woman hailed from Tella town within the same locality.
She had separated from Ubaido’s father several years ago and relocated to her family home in Tella.
According to the source, the victim had been invited to Nanguru for a marriage ceremony.
Ubaido had allegedly threatened to kill her whenever she set foot in the village, though his reasons remained undisclosed.
The source further revealed that upon learning of her presence, Ubaido monitored her movements and followed her to the house where the ceremony was being held, where he hacked her to death.
Following the attack, Ubaido fled to a nearby village to evade apprehension. However, local youths and relatives of the deceased woman mobilized and tracked him to his hiding place. They brought him back to his father’s house and killed him instantly in a mob action.
It was learned that the woman’s relatives moved her body to Tella, where she was buried on Wednesday evening.
The source added that while no arrests have been made regarding the lynching, many youths in the village have since deserted the area for fear of police updates.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Taraba Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, confirmed the incident.
