MOJEC targets 400,000 households with smart meter deployment
MOJEC International Limited has announced plans to deliver smart meters to about 400,000 households across Nigeria in 2025, as it deepens its contribution to ongoing reforms in the country’s electricity sector.
The rollout, which cuts across several states within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, represents one of the company’s most extensive deployment efforts to date.
It also reflects a renewed push to close Nigeria’s metering gap, improve billing transparency, and strengthen revenue assurance for electricity distribution companies.
In 2025 alone, MOJEC deployed over 400,000 smart meters nationwide, marking a significant increase from the 300,000 units installed in 2024.
The growth, estimated at about 35 per cent year-on-year, further reinforces the company’s position as the largest smart meter manufacturer in sub-Saharan Africa.
A large proportion of the installations was carried out through MOJEC Meter Asset Management Company, M3AC, the group’s asset management subsidiary, which accounted for roughly 350,000 meters.
Speaking on the performance, MOJEC’s Head of Installation, Engr. Monday Ubogu, said the company played a dominant role in national metering activities during the year.
“Within the first three quarters of the year, MOJEC completed about 300,000 installations, accounting for roughly 40 per cent of total installations nationwide within that period. The pace continued in the final quarter with an additional 150,000 meters deployed, demonstrating our operational strength and nationwide reach,” he said.
Ubogu noted that the company’s performance builds on its long-standing involvement in key national metering initiatives, including the Credit Advance Payment for Metering Implementation, Meter Asset Provider programmes, vendor financing schemes, and the National Mass Metering Programme.
Group Managing Director, Chantelle Abdul, attributed the sustained rollout to strategic investments in production capacity, technology, and human resources.
According to her, MOJEC operates two meter manufacturing plants with a combined installed capacity of up to five million meters annually, enabling the company to meet current demand while supporting Nigeria’s long-term energy efficiency goals.
She added that the company’s installer network, comprising over 5,000 trained professionals nationwide, has been critical to ensuring speed, quality, and compliance across diverse locations.
Abdul stressed that beyond the numbers, the focus remains on impact.
“Each meter deployed represents progress toward transparency, improved service delivery, and greater economic stability for households and businesses. That is the core of what we do,” she said.
MOJEC International Limited is expected to remain a key player in shaping a more efficient and accountable electricity market.
