2 arrested over attempt to smuggle drugs for inmates at Kano court
Operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano have arrested two suspects, Usman Khalid (25) and Bello Musa Ahmed (24), for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs and Indian hemp to inmates at the Nomansland Magistrate Court Complex.
The suspects, both residents of the Tsamiya (Brigade) area of Kano State, were apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse. They were caught while attempting to throw Indian hemp and other illicit substances to inmates within the court premises.
In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, warned the public against intermingling with inmates, especially during transportation to and from court.
He noted that such actions pose a serious security breach and are punishable by law. He emphasized that the NCoS remains committed to rehabilitating and reforming inmates and will not tolerate attempts to undermine this mandate.
Kofar Nasarawa stated that the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, has directed the Legal and Intelligence Units to hand over the suspects and the seized substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining maximum security and zero tolerance for drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies to sustain law and order.
