Ondo South: 36-Year-Old Politician Declares Interest in Replacing Jimoh Ibrahim
Ogbeni Kayode Fakuyi, a 36-year-old stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, on Monday declared his intention to replace Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who currently represents Ondo South Senatorial District at the Senate.
Daily Trust reports that President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Ibrahim, a business mogul, for an ambassadorial appointment has signalled a likely vacancy in the Ondo South Senate seat.
The development has intensified political activities in the district, with several contenders already positioning themselves for the role.
Fakuyi, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, formally announced his ambition on Monday.
“Following the choice of the senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District to vacate his seat for an ambassadorial appointment, I have taken the unlighthearted decision to commence consultations with the President, the Governor, party leadership, members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the people of Ondo South Senatorial District.
“With my long history of loyalty to the party, priceless contributions to its success and fecund legislative experience – both in academics and practice, I am the most suitable person to represent Ondo South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate at this time,” he said in a statement made available to Daily Trust.
The legislative consultant told our correspondent that despite his age, he brings three decades of political experience to the table.
“I started attending ward meetings when I was in primary school,” he said.
Fakuyi served as the Ondo State coordinator for the Buhari Vanguard in 2014/2015.
He hails from Ilutitun Ward 2 in Okitipupa Local Government Area and holds a Master’s degree in Legislative Studies from the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Abuja.
