Police arrest suspected bandits’ financiers in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command says it has dismantled two criminal networks in coordinated operations carried out across the state and neighbouring Zamfara State on Wednesday.
In Tangaza Local Government Area, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested three suspected financiers of a notorious bandit group. Among those apprehended was Ruwa Ginyo, the Fulani head of Gidan-Madi, alongside two accomplices.
Police said the suspects allegedly served as brokers for armed bandits by receiving rustled cattle, selling them in local markets and forwarding the proceeds to the criminals.
Four rustled cows were recovered during the operation. According to the Command, the suspects have confessed and further investigations were ongoing.
In a separate operation the same day, the Strike Force team of the Command extended its activities into Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, where several suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, motorcycle theft and receiving stolen property were arrested.
Two stolen motorcycles linked to an active case in Sokoto were recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the operatives for what he described as “exceptional work” and said the parallel operations reflect the Command’s determination to weaken criminal structures both within and outside the state.
He said the combined focus on disrupting the financial and logistical chains of criminal groups would be intensified.
The Command urged members of the public, especially livestock and motorcycle dealers, to remain vigilant and always demand proof of ownership before transactions.
It also appealed for credible information from residents, assuring them of confidentiality.
