
Defendant docked for allegedly assaulting older brother
A 24-year-old defendant, Israel Etuk, was on Monday charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly assaulting his older brother.
The defendant whose address was not mentioned, is standing trial on two-count charge of assault and threat to life.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 12, in the Magbon area of Badagry.
Ekpo alleged that the defendant unlawfully assaulted his brother, one Mr Sunday Etuk, by slapping him in the face, beating him up and causing him injuries.
He alleged that the defendant also threatened to kill the complainant with a cutlass.
The prosecution said that the defendant was consequently arrested and handed over to police for prosecution.
“The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168 and 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N500,000 with three sureties in like sum.
He held that one of the surety must be a community leader.(NA
