FirstBank sponsors Oke-Odan festival 2025
FirstBank of Nigeria Ltd. was actively involved in the promotion of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage through its support and presence on Saturday at the Oke-Odan Cultural Festival 2025 in Oke – Odan community of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The bank’s involvement, as the sponsor, in the Oke-Odan festival was part of its broader commitment to supporting Nigerian arts and culture.
The 2025 Oke-Odan Cultural Festival themed “Leveraging Cultural Integration for Economic Prosperity,” focused on the dual benefit of preserving heritage and fostering economic opportunities.
The FirstBank’s sponsorship equally emphasized youth engagement and economic prosperity.
The rich festival which attracted prominent Nigerians and indigenes from home and abroad featured cultural displays, dances, traditional homages, awards presentation and commissioning of projects.
FirstBank added color and glamour to the event with eye-catching aesthetic designs and strategically placed banners throughout the festival venue.
The name Oke-Odan means “hill of the brave,” and the community has deep historical roots, including being the birthplace of Princess Aina, later known as Sara Forbes Bonetta, who was adopted by Queen Victoria.
The festival strengthened unity, connected the diaspora with the homeland, and reinforced the cultural identity of the different Ago quarters such as Ago-Eyo, Ago-Erinja, Ago-Ilaro, and Ago-Ilobi.
In his remarks, the Oloke – Odan of Oke – Odan, Dr Oluwarotimi Fagbenro, applauded the financial institution and other contributors for their support and commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
The monarch recalled that the festival which began as Oke-Odan day in 2022 has now been expanded not just in consonance with “what’s generally happening around us but because of the scope of the celebration and the involvement of all and sundry.”
Fagbenro explained that the festival stands as a celebration of heritage, wellness, education, and development, while serving as both a cultural homecoming and a platform for community progress.
“Our rich cultural heritage in general language is hereby being celebrated more than ever before,” he said.
The monarch used the occasion to call on Governor Dapo Abiodun on the construction of Oke-Odan by pass road between Owode – Idiroko road, saying the community has been appealing persistently to the government on the 3KM road since the inception of the current government.
The Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Chief Adebisi Odunlami, said this year’s Oke – Odan festival was unique and it carried a renewed significance.
