Nigerian security: Don’t remain a spectator, Macron tells international community
President Emmanuel Macron of France has called on the international community to rally round Nigeria in tackling the prevailing insecurity in the country.
There has been an upsurge in attacks and killings in Nigeria, especially in the North.
The situation has worsened with the adoption of school children.
In November, bandits abducted at least 200 pupils and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State.
Up till now the school children are still in captivity.
Speaking on the insecurity in the country, Macron said he had spoken with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and France is in solidarity on the situation in Nigeria.
The French President also disclosed that he has called on all the partners to step up their engagement with Nigeria as others cannot afford to remain spectators.
He wrote: “I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT. I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North.
“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator.”
