Actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has shared insights into how she has maintained her youthful glow at 41. The actress, who recently marked her 41st birthday, attributed her appearance to a consistently healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, Bassey credited God as the foundation of her well-being. “First, all glory to God. I cannot even take the glory for my looks because life is a gift from God, which I nurture and cherish, knowing that my body is the temple of God,” she said.
Bassey revealed that being mindful of her diet has also played a major role in her youthful look. “I am particularly careful about what I eat. I am not a sweet tooth, so I am not attracted to chocolates and pastries. I constantly put myself in check, and once I notice any extra weight, I immediately take control measures,” she said, adding that regular exercise is also part of her routine.
Reflecting on her Nollywood journey, the actress said she is proud of every stage of her career, especially the early years filled with uncertainty and perseverance.
She explained that the long wait helped shape her character and outlook on life. “It sharpened my resolve not to take anything for granted. When I eventually started booking roles, I knew I had to be appreciative and humble because it took a lot of patience and sacrifice—going out every day not knowing if you would secure a role, spending money you didn’t have, carrying disappointment with dignity and living with hope.”
Bassey described the emotional challenges of the journey, including watching others land roles she felt capable of playing. “You encourage yourself, believing that one day it will be your turn. You clap for others and are genuinely happy for them even when it’s not happening for you. You find strength even when you are broken, wipe your silent tears and put on the best smile without anyone knowing the depth of your struggles,” she said.
