Gunmen kill two in Zamfara

At least two people have been killed in separate attacks on the Adabka and Mashayar Zaki communities in Zamfara State.

PUNCH Metro gathered from a report by Security Analysis and Counter-Insurgency Expert (West Africa) Zagazola Makama on Wednesday that three others were injured in the incidents.

According to the report, about 43 gunmen invaded Adabka Village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area around 11:30 a.m. and opened fire, killing a 45-year-old man on the spot.

His body, the report added, was later taken to the hospital for an autopsy before being released to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Makama, quoting police sources, said an investigation had begun, and efforts were ongoing to track down the attackers.

Less than an hour later, the report disclosed that another group of armed men reportedly struck Mashayar Zaki Village along the Gusau–Dansadau Road in Maru Local Government Area, killing one person and injuring three others before fleeing.

Attempts to reach the spokesperson for the state police command, Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful, as his phone rang out, and text and WhatsApp messages sent to him had not been answered as of press time.

The attacks occurred less than 24 hours after the arrest of a 32-year-old man suspected of attempting to procure ammunition from the Federal Capital Territory for bandits operating in Zamfara State was reported.
