
Bayelsa varsity to launch N100bn endowment

The management of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, has announced plans to launch a N100bn Endowment Fund to support the institution’s development needs.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Teddy Adias, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday ahead of the university’s convocation.
Adias said, “We will also launch a N100bn Endowment Fund to support developmental needs for our university, as well as honour some distinguished Nigerians who have made outstanding contributions to our nation’s development through the award of honorary doctorate degrees.”
He added that the institution would confer degrees on 10,272 graduating students, comprising 9,912 undergraduates and 360 postgraduate students.
“We shall be conferring degrees on 10,272 graduating students across our various faculties and the Postgraduate School. Of this number, 9,912 will be graduating with first degrees and 360 with postgraduate degrees,” he said.
Adias described the combined convocation ceremony for six sets of graduates as a major milestone.
He noted that the university had secured full accreditation for 54 programmes, while student enrolment had grown from 5,000 to 24,000.
The VC reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to strengthening academic quality, expanding research partnerships, improving digital readiness and enhancing staff and student welfare.
Adias also inaugurated several projects, including office blocks for the Faculties of Science and Humanities, a Faculty of Science Lecture Theatre, a Centre for Genomics and a guest house.
