Fire Razes Commodity Market in Kano
An early morning fire outbreak on Monday razed parts of Kano’s popular commodity market, Singer Market, located along Bello Road in the metropolis.
The incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. and was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who said firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
Abdullahi said personnel of the service who were mobilised to the scene worked to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the market.
Meanwhile, shop owners rushed to the market in an attempt to salvage their goods, as preliminary reports indicated that commodities worth millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno.
Singer Market is one of Kano’s major foodstuff markets, supplying a wide range of items to several northern states and neighbouring countries.
