Zazzau emir urges pregnant women to prioritize antenatal care
Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, has called on all pregnant women across Kaduna State to consistently attend antenatal care and seek skilled delivery in hospitals to safeguard their health and that of their unborn children.
The Emir made the appeal during his remarks at the #OpenKadunaHealthSectorDialogue held on Thursday, 4th December 2025.
The program organized by the Maternal Accountability Mechanism in Kaduna Initiative (KADMAM), provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss community accountability in primary health care (PHC) financing.
Addressing government officials, development partners, and community leaders, the Emir emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in promoting health-seeking behavior and improving maternal and child health outcomes.
The Emir began his address by commending KADMAM for sustaining a platform that ensures citizens’ voices are central in discussions about PHC financing.
As chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Emir Bamalli pledged continued support for initiatives that promote maternal and child health.
He stressed the importance of families ensuring that pregnant women attend antenatal care, seek hospital deliveries, and that children receive all recommended immunization.
“The health of our mothers and children is the foundation of a prosperous society, and we will not relent in championing these life-saving practices across all our communities,” he said.
The Emir also extended appreciation to development partners and accountability mechanisms from Lagos and Kano, acknowledging their collaboration in strengthening health outcomes across Nigeria.
He described the recognition and awards he had received for community mobilization and public health advocacy as a dedication to the resilient people of Zazzau Emirate and Kaduna State.
Represented by Health Commissioner Hajiya Umma K. Ahmed, Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving primary healthcare access and outcomes for women and children.
The co-Chairman KADMAM Alhaji Garba Muhammad said the #OpenKadunaHealthSectorDialogue serves as a quarterly, citizen-led platform to strengthen transparency, community engagement, and evidence-driven decision-making in Kaduna State’s health sector, particularly in primary healthcare financing.
He added that the initiative empowers citizens to monitor how health funds are allocated and utilized, ensuring that every Naira spent leads to tangible improvements in maternal and child health, and supports government efforts to strengthen the health system.
