Over N25bn Projects Executed in Talata Mafara – Gov Lawal
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has said his administration has executed developmental projects worth more than N25 billion in Talata Mafara Local Government Area as part of efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy.
The governor stated this in Talata Mafara during the launch of 250,000 exercise books, alongside reading and other instructional materials, for distribution to pupils across the local government.
Lawal said his government was prepared to account for all projects executed under his administration, insisting that the achievements were verifiable and not driven by political propaganda.
“We mean whatever we say, and we have factual evidence to present to anyone who is ready to challenge us. We are not making political propaganda; our services are open for all to see,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and, at the event, approved the construction of the Tudun Wada Road in Talata Mafara, as well as a modern drainage system to address perennial flooding challenges during the rainy season.
The governor said the intervention followed appeals from the state Assembly member representing the area, Shamsudeen Basco, who requested urgent attention to the Tudun Wada community.
“I have directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development to carry out an assessment and commence the construction,” Lawal said.
Earlier, the governor also directed the Commissioner for Local Government, Ahmad Garba Yandi, to install an electricity transformer in Danbaza village in Maradun Local Government Area to address long-standing power outages affecting the community and neighbouring villages.
Lawal urged youths in the state to focus on their education, stressing that his administration places high priority on education as a foundation for building a better society.
“We give priority to education for a better society. I urge you to value your educational pursuits,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government Area, Yahaya Abubakar Yari, said the programme was part of efforts to justify the confidence reposed in the Lawal administration and its rescue mission.
He listed items inaugurated at the event to include 250,000 exercise books, 10,000 biros, 40,000 pencils, 40,000 sharpeners, 40,000 erasers, 12,000 rulers, 500 cartons of school chalk and 500 three-seater desks capable of accommodating 1,500 pupils at a time.
Yari also disclosed that the council had empowered local security outfits with 20 motorcycles to enhance patrol and security in the area.
He added that 85 students had been sponsored to the College of Health Sciences and Technology to study various health-related courses, while three students from each political ward in the local government were sponsored to study education, with the aim of addressing teacher shortages and absenteeism in their communities.
