Northern youths pledge support for security agencies against banditry
Newly elected members of the Fifth Northern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) have pledged to support security agencies in tackling banditry and other security challenges ravaging the region.
The election was held on Saturday in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Those elected include Malam Faruq Dangi as Speaker; Itodo Godswill, Deputy Speaker; Faisal Maiha, Clerk of the Assembly; Aminu Onipe, Minority Whip; and Afolabi Godwin, Deputy Minority Leader. Others are Okiti Emmanuel, Majority Leader; Muhammad Nuru-Isah, Deputy Clerk; James Jako, Public Relations Officer; Mohammed Hassan Baba, Minority Leader; Abdullahi Mukhtar Coma, Deputy Chief Whip; Ohiani Nana Hauwa, Director of Gender Affairs; and Blessing Sonje, Deputy Majority Leader.
In his acceptance speech, the Speaker of the fifth assembly, Malam Faruq Dangi, who hails from Katsina State, expressed the readiness of northern youths to partner with security agencies, particularly in intelligence gathering.
According to him, the collaboration is aimed at ending insurgency in the North-East and curbing all forms of criminality across the 19 northern states and the country at large.
Dangi commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as “concerted efforts” to rid the country of insecurity and improve the nation’s economy.
He stressed the need for the new assembly to function as a true parliament of Northern youths—one not divided by ethnicity, religion or political interests, but united by purpose, justice and a shared destiny.
