Fire Guts Part of FIRS Office in Abuja, No Casualties Recorded
A fire incident occurred on Saturday morning at an office of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) located at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
The blaze, which broke out on the fourth floor of the building, was swiftly brought under control by on-duty security personnel with support from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders.
Confirming the incident in a statement, FIRS said no lives were lost, though some offices on the affected floor sustained damage.
The statement was signed by Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of FIRS.
“We are grateful to report that no lives were lost in the incident. However, a number of offices on the affected floor sustained damage,” the statement said.
The service commended the prompt response of emergency teams, noting that their intervention prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
“The fire was promptly responded to by our security personnel on duty, and with the swift support of the FCT Fire Service and other emergency responders, it was successfully contained,” FIRS added.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun, with initial findings suggesting a possible electrical fault.
“Preliminary assessments point to a possible electrical fault as the cause of the fire,” the agency said, adding that a full investigation is ongoing.
FIRS also assured the public that measures are being taken to strengthen safety within its facilities.
“In the meantime, all internal safety protocols are being thoroughly reviewed and strengthened to mitigate against future occurrences,” the statement said.
